Amtico flooring has grown to become one of the mainstays of the UK luxury vinyl flooring sector. It is a brand that many aspire to as the highest quality luxury vinyl tile on the market today. Its nearest competitor at the higher price points of LVT in the UK could be said to be Karndean flooring.

At the heart of the business has always been long term thinking and planning and a desire to establish loyal customer relationships built on a trust in the ability to make-to-order and deliver, stylish, high quality luxury vinyl flooring perfectly suited to their global client requirements. With manufacturing and sales headquarters in the UK, Amtico has worldwide customer service bases across Europe, US, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Amtico is a Mannington Mills company, a fourth generation family-owned US Flooring manufacturing company.

Amtico - The Early Years

Amtico is coming up to it's 60th anniversary in 2024. The Amtico brand of luxury vinyl flooring was first introduced in 1964 by the British company Amtico International. The company was founded by two entrepreneurs, David Thompson and George Reed, who developed a unique method of manufacturing LVT using high-pressure lamination techniques. This allowed them to create realistic wood, stone, and abstract designs that were more durable and resistant to wear than traditional vinyl flooring.

The company and the founding partners were well ahead of their time in both a manufacturing and marketing capacity. The innovations brought to market in both the construction of the vinyl planks and tiles, the routes to market and distribution channels enabled Amtico to show a clean pair of heels to what was otherwise available through the 1960s and early 1970s in the United Kingdom. Gaining market share rapidly in this new catergory of vinyl flooring Amtico was able to quickly develop popularity in both residential and commercial markets. Amtico had this new LVT market largely to themsleves until Karndean Designflooring was first introduced in 1973 by the British company Karndean International. The company, like Amtico was also founded by two entrepreneurs, Roger and Maria Thompson.
