Who Are Karndean?
Karndean is a British company that started life over 40 years in 1973.
The business was formed by Michael Walker and was originally based in the Midlands in the UK. From modest beginnings the company and the brand are now recognised globally as a leading manufacturer and supplier of the very highest quality flooring.
From the start Mr Walker wanted to offer something unique, inspirational and different to what the vinyl flooring industry was offering back in the 1970’s.
His philosophy was to offer a vinyl floor that was always practical but beautiful at the same time. To this end, he scoured the world for design inspirations that would eventually set Karndean Design Flooring on the path to offering some of the most realistic luxury vinyl flooring products on the market.
The consumer quickly warmed to the idea of endless combinations of planks, tiles, borders and design strips – not to mention the ability to cut the product into pretty much anything required. Crucially, this meant that people were no longer just getting a floor, but a more unique solution to their luxury vinyl flooring requirements.
The 1990’s were the real founding years of the company, a time when the business was under the stewardship of Mike Walkers’s daughter Fleur and her brother Chris.
To this day both the customer and the flooring businesses who have profited from the ranges of Karndean Flooring continue to buy into Mike Walker’s original idea of customisation and choice in vinyl flooring.
Lastly, if you take a good look at the Karndean logo you will notice the dog in the centre. This is the Walker’s trusty Great Dane dog, Smokey who lives on at the heart of Karndean’s logo to this day.
