Choosing a Parquet or Herringbone Laminate
Parquet effect laminate creates a very different finished appearance from conventional straight plank flooring. Herringbone designs use repeating angled sections to introduce pattern and movement across the floor, making the layout itself an important part of the overall look rather than simply the colour or wood effect.
Consider how prominent you want that pattern to be. Lighter and more consistent oak effects can produce a relatively subtle interpretation of parquet, while stronger grain, tonal variation and deeper colours can make the individual sections and overall pattern considerably more noticeable. The right choice will depend on whether you want the floor to provide a quiet backdrop or become a more defining feature of the room.
Consider the Pattern Across the Whole Room
Parquet designs are worth judging at room scale rather than from an individual plank alone. The repeating pattern can visually change the proportions and character of a space, and its effect will vary according to the size and shape of the room, available natural light and the amount of visible floor once furniture is in place.
Samples can help you compare the colour, grain and surface finish before buying, but also look carefully at product images showing a larger installed area. This gives you a better indication of how frequently the pattern repeats and how much variation you can expect across the finished floor.
Check How Your Chosen Parquet Laminate Is Installed
Do not assume that every parquet effect laminate is installed in exactly the same way. Check the manufacturer's fitting instructions for the individual product, including the locking system, plank orientation, subfloor requirements and recommended underlay where applicable. Patterned floors can require more planning than a conventional straight plank layout, particularly around walls, doorways and other fixed features.
You should also compare thickness, plank dimensions, manufacturer warranty and stated room suitability. If you are considering parquet laminate for a kitchen, bathroom or another area where moisture may be present, check that the specific product is approved by its manufacturer for that application.
