The increasing popularity of LVT Flooring has seen a proliferation of choice in the UK. This has moved the market to a point of near saturation with a vast number of brands and manufacturers that are now competing for the same space and the same sale. This has helped drive the prices of LVTs lower without doubt benefitting the customer, both retail and commercial. However with too much choice it makes it very difficult to even make a decision on which one to choose and to ultimately determine whether you are actually getting true value-for-money with your new floor?
In the good old days of the 1980s and even the 1990s before the Internet really came on the radars of most people, to purchase your new vinyl flooring you would have had to take a trip down to your local, bricks and mortar flooring shop (only when they were actually open, of course!). This was fine and when you arrived you were then presented with a limited range of floors and price points that the shop was retailing at that particular moment in time. You probably were given the selection of a cheaper floor; mid-priced option and a top of the range, all singing and dancing floor. Assessing quality and price however was more difficult when you were in the confines of a shop and in the company of a commission driven sales person!
The Internet has changed this! The consumer is now able to quickly access many hundreds of different luxury vinyl flooring brands and price points in the comfort of their own home. Making sound buying decisions based on your own research and information gathering enables the consumer to more easily determine true value-for-money and what equates to a great prices for a great quality luxury vinyl tile. So, what would I be having to pay these days for a new LVT floor? Well, firstly the estimated prices below are for supply only and are mainly driven by current Internet prices. LVT flooring fitting cost per square metre is best sourced direct from a local installer. Fitting rates vary greatly in different parts of the UK, so to give one arbitrary figure here could be misleading if you are living in the centre of London! However, for supply only prices on LVT we can take a pretty accurate position (as you would expect from us as we are leading UK retailers of luxury vinyl flooring!):
Two points:
- Purchasing your new LVT from a shop on the high street, you will have a more limited choice and will generally pay more per m2 (You're contributing to the cost of their shop rent don't forget!)
- Specific costs for a supply and fit service of luxury vinyl flooring: How much does it cost to install LVT flooring? The cost to install luxury vinyl tile can range anywhere from £13 to £30 per m2. Ultimately, your installation costs will come down to the type of luxury vinyl tile you purchase and your specific location in the UK. There may also be additional costs surroundung the installation - i.e. costs associated with sub-floor preparation.
- Lower end quality/value range @ Per square metre £15 / £25 / £30+
- Mid range quality @ Per square metre £25 / £35 / £40+
- Parquet/Herringbone pattern @ Per square metre £50 / £60 / £70+
- Higher end Per square metre @ £50 / £60 / £70+
- Vinyl Loc Underlay (Click LVT) @ Per square metre £7+
Obviously prices are always changing and you may well be able to pick up a limited time great deal or a seasonal promotion discount. However, the above will give you a feel for the types of prices that you can expect to pay for the supply only of your next luxury vinyl tile. There are many reputable online retailers that exist in addition to Flooring Hut so it is worth your while searching around the Internet and finding a floor, brand/manufacturer and retailer that you can trust and feel delivers a competitive package of great value and outstanding product, after sales service and customer care.
Is Luxury Vinyl Flooring more expensive than laminate?
You can find laminate flooring at a cheaper cost than LVT, but the quality may not be as good. Both are easy for you to look after and maintain. LVT is suitable for any room in your home, even bathrooms. They are both strong and hardwearing but generally, LVT is more durable.
There are most definitely excellent floors that you can buy without breaking the bank. Even the big sheds like B&Q and Wickes offer some very good LVT floors at cut price deals. Then you have the choices and floors offered by leading brands and manufacturers such as Luvanto; Polyflor; and Lifestyle Floors to name just 3. Next, there is often the own-brand offerings from retailers. At Flooring Hut we have the Burrnest and Burleigh ranges which are exclusive to us and are backed by us with excellent product guarantees and warranties. Lastly, you have the more premium luxury vinyl flooring brands such as Karndean and Amtico.
There is a debate as to whether the higher prices of both Karndean and Amtico can be justified? Arguments exist on both sides of the fence. It is fair to say that both these brands bring to market quite outstanding LVT floors that look great, are highly durable, can be installed in both residential and commercial environments and are also backed by excellent guarantees and customer service in the UK. The other side of the argument says that the construction of luxury vinyl flooring, in essence, is mostly the same through the different price points; brands and regardles of whether its a retailers own-brand or a leading brand such as those given here.
Features of an LVT that can determine price and where you will pay a premium are for example where the wear layer is greater (delivering greater durability) particularly in higher traffic areas. Or, where it is the installation type of plank size/laying pattern options. For example, the latest SPC rigid core LVT floors with built-in underlayment are being priced at a premium as are the herringbone/parquet style floors. Our leading LVT ranges include the following: Polyflor Camaro; Polyflor Camaro Loc; Karndean Knight Tile; Karndean Van Gogh; Amtico Spacia and Amtico Signature.
