Where Can LVT Be Installed

Where Can LVT Be Installed

Key Takeaways: Where Can LVT Be Installed?

  • Can I install luxury vinyl flooring in any room in my home?
  • What about fitting into a conservatory?
  • Can I fit LVT into my office space?
  • My room gets really hot. Can I still install LVT

So, you have seen some really nice luxury vinyl tiles in your friends home. You would ideally love to have some of this wood effect LVT running through your home downstairs and even some new stone effect LVT tiles in the kitchen. However, you are unsure whether LVT can be installed into your home environment? The short answer is luxury vinyl flooring can be installed in any room in the house, including rooms at, above or below grade (ground level). It can also be installed over almost any type of subfloor (concrete, wood, vinyl), as long as the subfloor is smooth and level. If the subfloor has imperfections, they may show through the vinyl.

There are considerations however in respect of room temperatures (i.e. conservatories in the height of Summer, or a red hot commercial kitchen) and the installation type of the particular LVT floor. This information can be viewed before you purchase either on the retailers website or from the manufacturer direct. In fact, nearly all of the leading brands have customer service and technical helplines where you can make enquiries about room suitability before parting with your money for your new LVT.

LVT flooring can make an excellent choice for your home, particularly in the living room, kitchen, and bathroom. It has everything you need in a floor; looks, ease of cleaning, comfort, and durability:

  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Conservatories
  • Hallways
  • Living Rooms
  • Dining Rooms
  • Stairs and Landings

It is sensible though to go into a greater level of detail to see what the specifics are when installing LVT into different rooms in the home or workplace. Once installed changing the flooring that is now down is not that simple (particularly if it is a glue down floor). Not to mention, it can be quite costly to uplift and re-install a brand new floor! LVT flooring can make an excellent choice for your home, particularly in the living room, kitchen, and bathroom. It has everything you need in a floor; looks, ease of cleaning, comfort, and durability.

If you are installing into a conservatory then you need to be aware of the following important considerations. It is a known fact that the temperature in a conservatory can change, depending on the time of year in the UK. In general LVT floors have a high level of resistance to changes in temperature so are a good choice for a conservatory environment. However there are considerations that need to be taken into account in respect of the installation type that you are purchasing, i.e. click or glue down and the expansion gaps that may need to be left to allow the floor to contract and expand. Also, you may need to consider using a temperature tolerant adhesive where you are fitting a stick down LVT. Typically an adhesive such as F Ball F49 should be considered as it is specifically designed to work in both low temperatures and higher temperatures i.e. Over 27c.

Another important consideration is the amount of footfall or traffic that is likely to be walking across the LVT. If you are considering luxury vinylt iles for your hallway then it may be a good idea to select your flooring with a consideration of wear layer and durability. The same thinking would apply too for a commercial environment where the amount of foot traffic likely is going to be considerably higher then found in a domestic residence. Typical wear layers for LVT are often quoted as 0.3mm; 0.55mm and 0.7mm. The startpoint for a commercially suitable luxury vinyl flooring would probably be 0.55mm.

Installing your new luxury vinyl flooring takes time and planning, especially when it comes to installing LVT flooring that covers the entirety of your house. The job is a great deal more complicated than it seems. You will first need to decide on the direction of the flooring, how to easily transition from room to room. Create a plan and follow it.

Another common question is whether underfloor heating can be installed with LVT flooring. The answer is yes, underfloor heating can be easily installed with LVT. In fact, LVT flooring is ideal for homes with underfloor heating because it can expand and contract with the room's temperature fluctuations.
