Give the Floor a Bone (Herringbone)!

There are so many factors to consider when it comes to choosing a new floor: the material, the colour, the price, the maintenance required once fitted. These are all very valid elements to think about when choosing your perfect floor, but one factor often overlooked is the pattern. Very few people actively think about their floor’s pattern and yet, it’s such an important piece of the perfect flooring puzzle. Today, I’d like to introduce to you the Herringbone pattern.

Check out S&M Flooring’s photo of Polyflor’s Camaro Atlantic Slate with Ice grouting stripe. I’m sure you’ll agree the flooring is striking! Here are three benefits to the Herringbone pattern:

1) Makes the room look bigger

This pattern gives the illusion of movement, thus making the room appear larger than it is. Worried your room is too small, can’t afford an extension? Well, Herringbone your room bigger!

2) You can’t break this bone!

This is considered a very strong pattern. It compresses well and can take high impacts whilst providing stability to any furniture placed on top of it. Now don’t go at it with a pick axe or you’ll probably tear it up, but for everyday wear and tear, you’ll receive bone-like strength!

3) Versatility

This is a classic flooring pattern, no two ways about it, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be reinvented for a contemporary house. Whether you want that traditional look or that cutting-edge feel – the Herringbone pattern can work both ways for you!

So the next time you’re about to choose your floor, consider the pattern. It’s an important, but very understated factor. Ultimately, you might want to consider the Herringbone; it’s a space-growing, hard-wearing and timeless choice! I’ll see you on the next one!
