The King of Contrast

The definition of contrast is to be ‘strikingly different from something else’. I don’t think anyone can argue that black is about as different as it gets from white. But why is it that it is such a good thing? Well, in short, it’s because it’s eye-catching!

Think about advertising, a good advertiser will always use high contrast colours in their advert’s images to capture the attention of their audience. Likewise, we can capture people’s attention when it comes to our spaces, be it commercial like in the picture below or privately in our own homes. A room is a complete package, ceiling, walls, floor and all, so every single aspect needs to make eyes pop!

So next time you are choosing floor designs, particularly when working with tiles, think contrast. Tiles with very different colours work fantastically in bathrooms and kitchens in particular. Think of the classic hotel, black and white tiled bathroom floors and you’ll be on the right lines. But if you need something more modern and ‘edgy’, check out these awesome flooring contrast designs:

Want to contrast colours that aren’t black and white? Use a colour wheel.
1) Google ‘Colour Contrast Wheel’
2) Select the primary colour you like
3) Look across the wheel at the opposite side
4) That is the colour that is the complete opposite of your primary colour
5) Find tiles of those two colours and prepare to create a mind-blowing, beautiful floor!

So whether you go for the timeless black and white or you put your own spin on it using a colour wheel to create your own colour contrast combination; you definitely need to become the King of Contrast when working with flooring tiles! I’ll see you on the next one!
