Introduction to Kitchen Floors

On Flooring Hut’s shiny new website, we have an inspiration page. Let’s look at some kitchen flooring inspiration today.

Carpets

Have you ever seen carpets in a kitchen? No, we have not either. That’s because carpet fibres are absorbent, so will retain any spillages that you have whilst cooking. Also, carpets stain easily, so will discolour with common kitchen spills. Therefore, we would recommend against carpeting your kitchen. However, if you are 100% certain that you want to carpet your kitchen, you can check out the carpet inspiration link below.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles

LVT Flooring is an excellent flooring choice for kitchens. This is because they are waterproof, so spillages become less troublesome. In addition, luxury vinyl tiles are temperature resistant, so your floor will not warp as your kitchen warms up when cooking. Furthermore, luxury vinyl tiles are easy to maintain, just your usual sweeping and mopping routine, and of course, spot cleaning any stains as and when they happen.

Trending colours at the moment for kitchens, includes grey and light grain wood effect tiles for a modern, clean look. Luxury vinyl tile brands we recommend include, the Enduro range by Forbo. Your kitchen will thank you if you choose a luxury vinyl tile floorcovering from one of the above brands in a light or grey wood effect pattern!

Wooden Flooring

On the surface, wooden flooring may not sound like the best choice of floorcovering for your kitchen. It is not waterproof and susceptible to warping with heat. However, that has not stopped thousands of homeowners from choosing it for their kitchens because of sheer aesthetic this flooring offers.

If you choose real wood floors for your kitchen, then we would recommend engineered wood as it is more stable. Though whether you opt for engineered wood flooring or solid wood flooring, you will need to stay on top of your weekly cleaning and floor refurbishment (re-sanding and re-sealing, as and when necessary). Woods we love include oak and white or grey finish woods. Brands we rate include Kährs and Furlong Natural Solutions. Check out the link for even more wood flooring inspiration for your kitchen!

Sheet Vinyl

Sheet vinyl flooring is the classic choice for kitchens. Thankfully, manufacturers and product quality has improved greatly compared to the vinyl your nan had in her kitchen in the 90s. Advantages of vinyl include the fact it is waterproof and comes in a big sheet, so food and drink spillages can be easily mopped away.

Sheet vinyl comes in a wide range of colours and patterns to choose from. Popular designs at the minute for kitchens are stone effect and oak effect vinyl products.  Recommended manufacturers include the Grea-Tex range by Abingdon, the Cuba range also by Abingdon, the Designatex range by Polyflor, and the Secura range also by Polyflor. If you remember anything from this post, remember this: vinyl is great for kitchens. Whether you choose luxury vinyl tiles or sheet vinyl flooring, you will be making a good flooring choice!
