Amtico V Karndean

Amtico versus Karndean LVT

Amtico Versus Karndean - Which is Better?

Key Takeaways: Amtico v Karndean

  • Highly searched upon in the UK by consumers to assess one brand against the other
  • Both are premium LVT brands with great floors
  • Customer service is excellent for both Amtico and Karndean
  • Product warranties and guarantees are commensurate
  • Both are highly recommended for domestic and commercial environments
  • Amtico is generally higher priced than Karndean

We are asked this question frequently by potential customers of both brands! It is a valid question as both these companies have invested a considerable amount of time and money over the last 10+ years to establish themselves as the leading luxury vinyl flooring company in the UK. Both Amtico and Karndean have their networks of shops and retailers in the country who can offer a complete end-to-end service for the supply and installation of your favoured LVT.

The general consesus of opinion is that Amtico flooring is the more premium brand out of the two. However, this is quite possibly because their marketing and perceived value in the market is higher than that of Karndean. Whether this position over Karndean is entirely justified is open to debate. Our specific experience as a retailer selling both online is that Karndean is the leader with it's more progressive attitude to embracing the Internet for generating sales to new customers.

Amtico is as at the time of writing (2023) more inclined to go down the route of delivering an end-to-end customer experience where you will be directed to a bricks and mortar retailer (shop) who can show you samples of the complete Amtico flooring ranges and also provide a measuring and professional installation service all under one roof - so to speak. This has advantages and some disadvantages for the consumer in our opinion.

The numbers of consumers wishing to buy their new luxury vinyl flooring online has grown exponentially in the last 5 years. This has meant that the footfall into flooring shops has declined noticeably and therefore the market penetration for both brands via their bricks and mortar retailer networks has dropped off. As mentioned above through our experience we see Karndean as the brand that is looking more to the future in ensuring it is where the customer is now increasingly looking to buy - namely the Internet!

It certainly doesn't need to follow that the customer has to have a poorer experience of Amtico by engaging with the brand online as opposed to in a shop. It just needs the Amtico company to be much braver in re-positioning itself as a 21st century company at the forefront of digital and mobile - allied to a outstanding product. The LVT world is right there for Amtico to dominate if they are able to break out from their rather 20th century myopic viewpoint that everything is best done through the laborious process of having to go to an actual shop (only when they're open, of course!).

Lastly, our vote in the debate of Amtico v Karndean goes to...... AMTICO! But only by the thinnest of wear layers!!
