Choosing Tongue and Groove Wood Flooring
Tongue and groove, often shortened to T&G, is a traditional method of joining wooden flooring boards. One edge of each board has a projecting tongue which fits into the corresponding groove of the adjoining board, helping the boards align closely together during installation.
Within our range you will find T&G engineered wood floors in different board widths, thicknesses and finishes. These details are worth comparing alongside appearance: wider boards can emphasise the natural grain and character of the timber, while brushed, oiled, lacquered and unfinished surfaces offer different looks and maintenance requirements. Some floors are also available with thicker real-wood wear layers, so always compare the individual product specifications before ordering.
T&G or Click Lock Wood Flooring?
The main difference is how the boards connect. Click systems use a profiled locking joint designed to engage neighbouring boards, while tongue and groove boards use the traditional tongue-and-groove profile. The appropriate choice can depend on the particular floor, subfloor and intended installation method rather than one system simply being better than the other.
T&G engineered wood can provide flexibility in how a floor is installed, but fitting requirements vary between products. Before ordering, check the manufacturer's instructions for the recommended installation method, subfloor preparation, expansion requirements and compatibility with underfloor heating where applicable.
